Lessons from Unashamed [contd]

PART 3…

The thing that matters most in moments like these is whether we are willing to listen to and heed what God is trying to say.

A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

Moments of weakness are opportunities for God to show himself strong.

You’ll actually experience more temptation, not less after you become a Christian. Following Jesus doesn’t mean you’ll start living perfectly overnight. It certainly doesn’t mean that your problems will disappear. Rather than ridding you of problems or temptations, following Jesus just means that you have a place…no, a person to run to when they come. And the power to overcome them.

We fool ourselves into thinking that when we’re “born again”, we come out of the womb walking. But spiritual infants are like physical infants.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes.

Temper truth with grace.

Following Jesus doesn’t just save us from a less fulfilling life or eternal seperation from God. It also saves us to a life that can radically transform the world around us through the power of God.

God does not want to build barriers around the church; he wants to build bridges to the culture so the gospel can flood into it.

I had been focused on behavior modification not worldview transformation.

I had learned to be unashamed in the midst of a fallen world. Now i needed to learn to be unashamed in the midst of a religious world.

PART 4…

Critics always have a lot of fury, but they rarely have a lot of facts.

Two thousand years ago, the apostle John wrote, “For all that is in the world – the desires of the flesh, and the desires of the eyes and pride of life – is not from the Father but is from the world.”

You know your heart is in trouble when luxuries become expectations.

Money itself isn’t evil, but the love of it is the root of all kinds of evil.

Each morning i have to attend a funeral. My own. I have to wake up once again and die to my desire for people’s approval.

You and I may come from different backgrounds and live in different cities and have different jobs and be seperated in age by decades, but we have the same calling: to be instruments of God’s redemptive power in the world.

My prayer is that you’ll make music too. Maybe not with your voice, and maybe not on a stage, but hopefully with your life.
